A simple, print-in-place winder for a cloth measuring tape. This can be customized for your own tape by clicking "customize" on the Thingiverse page. The provided STL works for a 315cm measuring tape (including branded bit at the end) that is 2cm wide and 0.4mm thick.
**If you want to measure your tape for customization:**
- ***Length*** - c'mon. You've got this one.
- ***Width*** - cross the tape across itself to measure its own width.
- ***Thickness*** - wind it 10 times loosely around your hand, pinch the middle gently, measure the height of the pinched section, and divide by 20.
- ***Tab thickness*** - if you don't have calipers, the metal tab is probably a little less than 3 times as thick as the tape.
**Usage note:** This spool will probably get stuck if you attempt to spin the handle like a crank (too much lateral force will cause the inner hub to get stuck in its channel). Instead, spin the handle between your thumb and forefinger to create a smooth turning motion to wind in the tape.
This project was created from scratch after trying 3DprintingMark's design. Unfortunately, that model did not have enough space between the spindle and shell for my tape, and my printer made the bridging at the bottom of the shell come out janky. Since I had some experience [making spinny print-in-place models](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6385908), I decided to try my hand at a print-in-place winder. For extra fun, I decided to make it customizable for different sized…
