We didn’t design this model. It’s a community file from its original creator, and now and then a file has a fault that only shows up when we print it, such as walls that are too thin or parts that don’t join properly. If that happens we’ll let you know and try to fix the file, which can add a day or two. If we can’t get a good print from it, we’ll refund you in full.

Good to know before you order

TPU has a £11.50 print-order minimum. ABS, ASA, PC, Nylon and PETG-CF have a £46 minimum; PA-CF has a £69 minimum. Delivery is shown separately in your cart.

About this print

A set of storage boxes designed to fit inside empty filament spools, repurposing the reels rather than discarding them. The system is stackable and portable, making it useful for workshop or hobby organisation. The assembly includes box sections and joiner pieces that link individual spools together into a modular storage arrangement. PLA is a practical choice for this type of functional organiser, providing the rigidity needed for stacking while being straightforward to print in multiple parts.

Are you tired of throwing away empty filament spools? This project allows you to re-purpose them instead of recycling. It is designed for the Inland filament spools from Micro Center.

A goal of my project was to not only create boxes that fit in the spools, but to make a storage system that is stackable and portable. I also wanted to make drilling the holes for the hinges easy and repeatable.

The files contained here are:
1) 'Reel Box' - you will need four of these per spool.
2) 'Joiners' - two parts, one for the top of the hole in one reel and the bottom of the hole in the other.
3) 'Handle' - two parts, an adapter and the handle.
4) 'Drilling Guide' - assures holes are located where they belong.

There is at least one other project of this type on Thingiverse ("Spool drawer organizer" by Tanatof). I only discovered it a few days ago. Hence, my project is not a copy of that one, but I am happy to see that we have some similar features. Props to Tanatof for a great, attractive design.

Formatting may have been simplified. These are the independent maker's instructions and fitment claims; Hark Tech has not independently verified them.
