It’s a community file from its original creator, and now and then a file has a fault that only shows up when we print it, such as walls that are too thin or parts that don’t join properly. If that happens we’ll let you know and try to fix the file, which can add a day or two. If we can’t get a good print from it, we’ll refund you in full.

Good to know before you order

TPU has a £11.50 print-order minimum. ABS, ASA, PC, Nylon and PETG-CF have a £46 minimum; PA-CF has a £69 minimum. Delivery is shown separately in your cart.

About this print

A flexible chainmail fabric panel inspired by NASA's research into 3D printed space armour. The interlocking tile structure allows the panel to drape and fold like a conventional fabric, making it suitable as a display piece, costume component or a demonstration of advanced print techniques. The model is designed to print without supports. TPU is the recommended material, as its flexibility allows the links to move freely once printed.

This is my attempt at recreating NASA's 3D printed chainmail fabric/armor. I could not find any STL files online that did not fail, so I made my own in Fusion 360! I hope that this can be a fun project for this community.
