What your £65 covers
This is the same six-point service whether it’s a MacBook Pro or a five-year-old gaming laptop. No tiers, no “from” pricing.
Full strip-down & deep clean
Bottom case off, fans out, heatsink cleared. Years of dust and pet hair come out with brushes and air — properly, not blown deeper into the chassis.
Fresh thermal paste
The original paste between chip and cooler dries out and crumbles. We clean it off with isopropyl and apply a known-good compound, so heat actually leaves the chip again.
Battery health report
Cycle count, remaining capacity and a physical swelling check. You get the honest numbers, and a written quote first if it’s time for a replacement.
Software tune-up
Startup items, background agents and update backlog sorted — the stuff that pins a CPU at idle and makes a healthy machine feel ancient. macOS or Windows.
Hardware once-over
Hinges, ports, keyboard and trackpad checked while it’s open. Small problems get flagged before they become expensive ones.
Tested under load
After reassembly we run it hard and watch the temperatures. What comes back to you has been proven quiet and cool, not just screwed back together.
The classic symptoms
Almost every machine that comes in for this service has the same underlying problem: blocked airflow and dead thermal paste.
Hot and loud
Fans hit full tilt on a video call, the case is uncomfortable on your lap, the area above the F-keys is too hot to touch. That’s heat with nowhere to go.
Slow for no reason
A hot chip protects itself by slowing down. Machines that feel tired are often just throttling — clean cooling brings the speed back.
Getting on a bit
A straight chassis, decent screen and healthy battery deserve a few more years. A £65 service is the cheapest upgrade a good older laptop can get.
The honest bit: if the slowness is a dying drive, a swollen battery or a board fault, a clean won’t fix it — and we won’t pretend it will. You’ll get what we found and a written quote before any extra work, so the £65 stays £65 unless you agree otherwise. And if the machine isn’t worth servicing, we’ll say so.

The £65 service, answered
How does the £15 deposit work?
The £15 books your slot and buys your tracked Royal Mail inbound label, emailed within 24 hours. Once the service is done and tested, we invoice the £50 balance; pay it and your laptop ships back tracked, free. The £15 is part of the £65, not on top of it.
Is it £65 for Windows laptops as well as MacBooks?
Yes — one fixed price for any make. MacBook, Dell, Lenovo, HP, ASUS, and especially gaming laptops, which hoover up more dust than anything else we see. The work is the same whatever the badge on the lid.
What if you find a fault the service can’t fix?
The £65 stays £65. If we find something separate — a swollen battery, a failed fan, a board fault — we tell you what we found and quote it in writing before touching it. Nothing extra happens without your approval. Board-level faults can often be handled in-house on our soldering bench.
How long does it take?
Typically a few working days from the moment it arrives. The service itself is usually a same-day job, but we run the machine under load afterwards so what comes back has been tested, not just reassembled.
Can I do this myself?
If you’re comfortable with pentalobe drivers, unclipping a bottom case and lifting a heatsink without tearing a ribbon cable — sure. For most people, the right tools plus a tube of decent paste isn’t far off what we charge to do it properly, with the machine tested afterwards.
Is it worth servicing an older laptop?
Often, yes. If the chassis is straight, the screen is good and the storage has space, a deep clean and re-paste can take a machine from cooked and wheezing back to quiet and quick. If it isn’t worth the £65, we’ll give you that answer instead of an invoice.
