What we take on

SMD component repair

Capacitors, resistors, MOSFETs, ICs, voltage regulators — replaced cleanly. Down to 0201 sizes under microscope. Lead-free or leaded depending on the board.

BGA reflow & reball (per-job)

We have the bench tools — preheater, hot-air station, microscope — for BGA work, and take on reflow and reball jobs after a free pre-flight assessment of your specific board. We’ll be honest if it’s outside what we’d quote for and point you at a specialist.

Micro-soldering

Flex cables, charging ports, tiny ICs, board-level phone and laptop work. Microscope-assisted at 20-40x magnification.

Trace & pad repair

Lifted SMD pads rebuilt with copper foil, broken traces jumped with enamel wire, corroded vias re-tinned. Real fixes, not glue and hope.

Connector replacement

HDMI, USB-C, DC barrel jacks, FFC connectors — the usual suspects on every console and laptop.

Through-hole & legacy

Vintage gear, audio amps, CRTs, retro computers. Same workshop, different tools — iron tip and proper desolder gun.

Pricing

£40 bench minimum, then £80/hr labour in 15-minute increments. Parts charged at cost. You get a firm written quote after free photo diagnosis — no chargeable work starts without your approval.

Don't see your job? Send a photo of the board and we'll quote it. Full pricing structure covers labour tiers and assessment fees.

How it works

  1. Send a photo. Front and back of the board, plus a brief description of the fault. We'll give you an honest gut-feel quote and a packing checklist.
  2. Post in the device or board. If you can extract the board yourself, do — saves disassembly time and cost. We'll do it for you if not.
  3. Free diagnosis. Bench tested, fault confirmed, firm quote sent before any chargeable work.
  4. Repair. SMD swap, BGA work, trace repair — whatever the board needs. Photos sent on completion.
  5. Test & return. Functional test of the repaired circuit, returned tracked.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of soldering work do you take on?

Anything from a single SMD capacitor swap to BGA reflow on console GPUs. Common jobs: HDMI/USB-C port replacement, charging IC swaps, MOSFET replacement on PSU boards, lifted-pad and broken-trace repair, flex-cable micro-soldering, BGA reflow and reball. Through-hole work too.

What’s the minimum charge?

£40 bench minimum. Beyond that we charge £80/hr in 15-minute increments. Most small jobs come in at £40-80; complex BGA work runs £80-250 depending on prep, reballing, and dwell time.

Do you do BGA reflow and reball?

We have the bench for it — preheater, hot-air station, microscope, leaded and lead-free profiles — and take on BGA reflow and reball jobs after a free pre-flight check on your specific board. Typical pricing is £80-150 for reflow and £150-250 for reball, but we always confirm per-job after seeing the board. If your specific platform isn’t one we’d quote for, we’ll say so and point you at someone who specialises in it.

What if you can’t fix it?

No fix, no fee — you only pay if the repair succeeds. Diagnosis is free. If we determine the board is beyond economic repair we’ll tell you straight, and return your hardware on you covering postage only.

Do you have a hot air station and microscope?

Yes — proper hot-air rework station, microscope for 0201/0402 work and BGA inspection, preheater for board prep, and the right flux/paste for lead-free and leaded reflow. Real bench, not a soldering iron on a kitchen table.

Do you offer a warranty?

90 days on the work. If a joint we made fails within 90 days we redo it free. Doesn’t cover unrelated faults that develop later.
