Board & component repair, done under a microscope
SMD component swaps, micro-soldering, connector replacement, trace and pad repair, the fiddly board-level work high-street shops turn down. BGA reflow and reball available, quoted per board. Post it from anywhere in the UK.
The rate card
The £40 assessment is redeemable in full, it becomes the first £40 of your repair. Firm written quote before any chargeable work.
If it’s on a PCB, it’s our kind of job
One board at a time, under magnification, with the right heat in the right place.
SMD component repair
Blown MOSFETs, shorted capacitors, burned resistors, failed power ICs. Identified, sourced and replaced with hot air or fine-tip iron.
Micro-soldering
Flex cable connectors, fine-pitch ICs, board-to-board connectors and the tiny stuff that needs a microscope and a steady hand rather than a bigger iron.
Connector replacement
USB-C ports, HDMI ports, DC jacks, charge ports, battery connectors, FPC sockets. The most common way good hardware dies, and one of the cheapest to fix properly.
Trace & pad repair
Lifted pads, broken traces, damage from a slipped screwdriver or a previous repair attempt. Jumper wire, careful masking and a board that works again.
BGA reflow & reball
Preheater, profiles for leaded and lead-free, and a free pre-flight check on your specific board before we quote. We’re honest about which platforms are worth it.
Through-hole & legacy
Amplifiers, hi-fi, vintage computers, arcade boards, lab and industrial gear. Old-school construction is very much within scope, often the most satisfying work on the bench.
Scope: we take boards from laptops, MacBooks, consoles and controllers (PS5 HDMI ports, Switch charge ports, JoyCon rails), audio gear, retro and industrial equipment. We don’t repair phones or tablets. And if a board is beyond economic repair, we say so at the assessment stage rather than charging you to find out slowly.
How the £40 assessment works
It’s not a fee on top, it’s the first £40 of your repair, paid up front.
Diagnosis you don’t pay twice for
Pay £40 and post the board (or the whole device) to the address we email you. We diagnose the fault on the bench, then send a firm written quote. The £40 comes straight off the repair price.
Nothing chargeable happens without your approval. If the board turns out to be beyond economic repair, we tell you straight, the £40 covers the full diagnosis and a tracked return of your hardware.
- Pay £40, postal address emailed straight away
- Full bench diagnosis under magnification
- Firm written quote, £40 already paid off it
- Approve, and the repair goes ahead
Not sure it’s worth sending? Send photos first, photo quotes are free.
Tooling that matches the job
Board work fails when it’s done with too little magnification and too much heat. This is the kit that avoids both.
| Microscope | Stereo inspection scope, every joint checked under magnification before and after |
| Hot-air station | Temperature-controlled SMD rework, nozzles down to fine-pitch |
| Board preheater | Even heat from below, the difference between a clean BGA job and a warped board |
| Soldering profiles | Leaded and lead-free, matched to the board’s original process |
| Diagnostics | Bench PSU with current monitoring, thermal camera for shorts, multimeter & scope |
| Consumables | Quality flux, solder and braid, not the mystery-paste economy |
Every repair leaves the bench cleaned of flux residue and tested against the original fault before it’s packed.

Board repair, answered
How much does PCB soldering repair cost in the UK?
£40 bench minimum. Beyond that we charge £80/hr in 15-minute increments, with parts at cost. Most small jobs come in at £40–80; complex BGA work runs £80–250 depending on prep, reballing and dwell time. You get a firm written quote before any chargeable work starts.
How does the £40 assessment work?
You pay £40 up front, redeemable in full against the repair, it becomes the first £40 of the job. We diagnose the board and send you a firm quote before any further chargeable work; nothing proceeds without your approval. If it’s beyond economic repair we’ll tell you straight, and the £40 covers the diagnosis and a tracked return of your hardware.
Do you do BGA reflow and reball?
Yes, preheater, hot-air station, microscope, leaded and lead-free profiles. We take on BGA reflow and reball after a free pre-flight check on your specific board. Typical pricing is £80–150 for reflow and £150–250 for reball, confirmed per job after seeing the board. If your platform isn’t one we’d quote for, we’ll say so and point you at someone who specialises in it.
What devices do you take boards from?
Laptops, MacBooks, games consoles and controllers (PS4/PS5 HDMI ports, Switch charge ports, JoyCon rails), amplifiers and hi-fi, vintage and retro gear, industrial and lab equipment. We don’t repair phones or tablets.
Is there a warranty?
90 days on the workmanship, the joint, the component we fitted, the trace we repaired. If our work fails in normal use inside 90 days, we put it right at no charge.
How long does it take?
Most boards are diagnosed within 2–3 working days of arriving, and typical turnaround is 5–10 working days from arrival to return dispatch. BGA jobs can run longer; we tell you when we quote.
