Why Hark Tech

All-brand laptop repair

HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, MSI, Gigabyte, Razer — if you can buy it, we can usually fix it. Business and gaming laptops both welcome.

Board-level when needed

DC-jack replacement, backlight fuse swap, display-cable reseat, BIOS chip reflash — the jobs high-street shops turn down, we do on the bench.

Honest triage

If a repair genuinely isn’t worth the cost of the laptop, we’ll tell you plainly. No-fix-no-fee means you never pay for work we couldn’t do.

What’s included

How it works

  1. Get in touch. Describe the symptoms — won’t boot, screen dead, dropped it, spilled drink, overheating. Include make and model if you can.
  2. Post it in. Padded hard case or double-box. Remove any sensitive USB sticks or discs before sending. Tracked and insured.
  3. Diagnose and quote. We identify the specific fault and email a firm written quote within 48 hours of arrival. No work starts without approval.
  4. Repair. Most laptop repairs are 1–3 hours of bench work. Liquid-damage cleans take longer because drying has to happen properly between stages.
  5. Test and return. Bench-tested running Windows/Linux, stressed under CPU load to confirm thermal behaviour is normal. Returned via tracked courier.

Pricing

Typical cost for this repair is £40–£180. You get a firm written quote after free initial diagnosis, and no chargeable work starts without your approval. No-fix-no-fee on every repair — you only pay for work that was actually done.

Turnaround is typically 3-7 working days from arrival at the workshop to return dispatch.

Frequently asked questions

My laptop won’t turn on — is it worth repairing?

Usually yes. “Won’t turn on” is often a dead charger (£20), a stuck power state (free reset), loose RAM (free reseat) or a DC jack (£60–£80). Less often it’s a motherboard failure, which on a 5+ year old consumer laptop may not be economic — we’ll tell you honestly.

I spilled a drink on my laptop. Can you clean it?

Yes — but speed matters. The sooner the laptop arrives after the spill, the better. Post it the same day if possible. We ultrasonic-clean the motherboard, replace any damaged components, and return the laptop tested. Cost typically £80–£250 depending on damage.

My laptop is really slow. Is that the hard drive?

Very often yes, especially on laptops 4+ years old with a mechanical HDD rather than SSD. An SSD upgrade (£60–£120 including the drive and our labour) makes the laptop feel 5× faster for less than the cost of one electronic device. We also back up your data and migrate your Windows install.

The screen is cracked / has lines / is black. Can you fix it?

Yes. Screen replacements on most consumer laptops are £80–£220 fitted. Flex cables that have worn through — common on well-travelled laptops — are cheaper at £40–£80.

The hinges are loose / the case is cracked. Worth fixing?

Hinge and case damage is progressive: small cracks grow, then the display cable tears when they fail. Catching it at the cracked-plastic-but-still-working stage means a £80–£180 fix; leaving it until the lid separates costs two to three times more. See our [hinge guide](/help/laptop-hinge-broken-screen-wobble-cracked-case).

Will my data be safe?

Yes. We don’t wipe drives unless you specifically ask. If the laptop’s beyond repair, we can usually pull the drive and image your data for you.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes, 90 days on the specific work performed.
