The console powers on, the fan spins, and the TV insists there’s nothing plugged in. Nine times out of ten that’s the HDMI port, and it’s the most common way a healthy PS5 gets written off. No signal on the TV
The console starts, the light comes on, but every TV and every input reports “no signal”. The port has stopped making a reliable connection to the cable.
Black screen, console on
You can hear it running, sometimes even hear game audio through a headset, but the screen stays black. The video lines through the port are the usual failure point.
Bent or pushed-in pins
Shine a torch into the socket: the tiny pins should sit in two neat rows. If any are flattened, twisted or pushed back, the port needs replacing, they can’t be reliably re-bent.
Cable falls out
The plug no longer clicks home and drops out at the slightest nudge. The port’s metal shell has spread or its anchor points have cracked away from the board.
Works when wiggled
Picture appears only with the cable held at an angle, or cuts in and out when someone walks past. Intermittent contact like this only ever gets worse.
Snapped tongue inside
The thin plastic tongue that carries the pins has broken off, sometimes it comes out stuck inside the cable. Nothing to lose here: only a new port fixes it.
This isn’t an unplug-and-swap part
The HDMI port is soldered straight to the motherboard by a row of tiny surface-mount legs. Replacing it properly is micro-soldering, not screwdriver work.
Board-level work, done carefully
Each leg of the port is soldered to a pad on the motherboard not much bigger than a grain of sand, with signal traces running away underneath. Getting the old port off without tearing those pads takes controlled hot air and patience; getting the new one on takes a microscope and a steady hand. Done roughly, a £55 repair becomes a dead motherboard, which is why we don’t rush it and why cheap-and-fast port swaps so often come back around.
If a console arrives with pads or traces already torn, usually from a hard yank on the cable or a previous repair attempt, that’s more involved rebuild work. We photograph what we find and quote it, typically £20 on top, before any chargeable work. If you’d rather not proceed we return the console and only the deposit is used.

A word on warranty seals. Replacing the port means opening the console, which disturbs the warranty seal. In practice almost every PS5 with a failed HDMI port is already outside Sony’s own 12-month warranty. If yours is still within it, go to Sony first, they should fix it free, and we’d rather tell you that than take the job.

How much does a PS5 HDMI port repair cost in the UK?

How do I know it’s the HDMI port and not the TV or cable?
Rule out the cheap stuff first: try a different HDMI cable, a different input on the TV, and if possible a different TV. Then look into the console’s HDMI socket with a torch. Bent or flattened pins, a loose wobbly fit, or bits of broken plastic are all port damage. If the console powers on normally (light comes on, fan spins) but the screen stays blank on every cable and TV, the port is the most likely culprit.
How long does the repair take?
2 to 3 working days on the bench once the console arrives, so with post in both directions you should allow about a week door to door. We email you the postal address as soon as you book.
Will my data, saves and games survive?
Yes. An HDMI port replacement is done on the motherboard and never touches the SSD, so your saves, installed games and accounts are exactly as you left them. We don’t open the console any further than the repair needs. As with any repair, having PS Plus cloud saves switched on is never a bad idea, but nothing about this job puts your data at risk.
What if the solder pads or traces are damaged?
Sometimes a port arrives with torn pads or lifted traces underneath, usually from a hard yank on the cable or a previous repair attempt. That needs extra rebuild work, typically £20 on top of the £55. We photograph the damage and send you the quote before any chargeable work; if you’d rather not proceed we return the console and only the deposit is used.
Is it worth repairing, or should I sell it for parts?
At £55 all-in with a 12-month warranty, repair wins comfortably. A working PS5 is worth several times that secondhand, a no-signal spares-or-repairs one goes for a fraction of it, and a replacement console costs far more than the fix. Unless the console has other serious problems, repairing the port is the clear call.
Do you fix HDMI IC (retimer) faults as well?
Yes. A small number of no-signal PS5s turn out to be the HDMI transmitter IC (sometimes called the retimer) rather than the port itself. If a new port doesn’t cure yours, we tell you straight away and quote the IC-level work through our board-level soldering service, with what you’ve already paid credited against it. You never pay twice for the same fault.
How should I pack a PS5 for posting?
The original box is ideal if you still have it; otherwise any sturdy box with a good 5cm of bubble wrap or padding on every side. Send the console only: no controller, no cables, no stand, and take any disc out of the drive first.
