Steam Deck LCD battery replacement with a genuine Valve battery
At a glance
- Device: Steam Deck LCD
- Job: battery replacement with a genuine Valve battery
- Result: boots normally and charges at 23.6 W over USB-C. Powered on, it draws about 40 W from the wall.
- Cost to the owner: £149 in total, including the genuine battery, fitting, testing and tracked return postage
The job
The owner wanted their Steam Deck LCD fitted with a genuine Valve battery rather than an unbranded one. We quoted £149 for the whole job: the battery, fitting, testing and tracked return.
A genuine battery has to be ordered in for each job, so the owner paid a £99 deposit, which covers the battery, and the £50 balance on completion. We explain before booking that the deposit can't be refunded once the battery has been ordered, because it's bought for that console.
The fix
With the genuine Valve battery fitted, the Deck booted straight to its PIN screen.
Testing
A new battery should charge properly, not just power the console, so we measured it. Switched off at 50% charge, it was drawing 14.89 V at 1.58 A over USB-C, which is 23.6 W. Switched on, it drew about 40 W from the wall, under the 45 W limit of the charger.

Questions about this repair
Can you fit a genuine Valve battery in a Steam Deck? Yes. We order the genuine battery in for each job and fit it by post. The price includes the battery, fitting, testing and tracked return.
Why is there a deposit? The battery is ordered for your console, so the deposit pays for it before we order. We tell you that before you book.
Is it worth replacing a Steam Deck battery? If the rest of the Deck is in good shape, a new battery is far cheaper than a new console. If there's any other damage, we quote it before doing any work.
