Why single-hose air con struggles

It depressurises the room

A single hose blows your cooled indoor air outside. That air has to be replaced, so warm outdoor air is pulled in through gaps around doors and windows. You are cooling air just to throw it away.

It works harder for less

Because warm air keeps leaking back in, the unit runs longer to hold the same temperature. On the hottest days, when you need it most, a single-hose unit can struggle to keep up.

Dual-hose fixes both

A second hose feeds the condenser with outdoor air instead of room air, so the room stays sealed and cools faster. It is the same principle used by higher-end portable units that ship dual-hose from the factory.

What is in the kit

Original designs by Jamie Turner on Printables (hose collar, Creative Commons) and u/VykkuF (rear intake backplate, shared with permission via the original listing). We are a printing service, not the designers: we print these community designs for you on quality machines, in a durable material, and post them ready to fit.

Choose the right material

PETG
Recommended

Tougher than PLA and handles the warm exhaust side well. Our default choice for this part and only a little more than PLA.

ASA
Best for full sun

The most heat and UV resistant option. Pick this if the unit sits in a conservatory or strong direct sunlight.

PC
Maximum heat resistance

Polycarbonate is the strongest, most heat tolerant material we print. More than this part strictly needs, but it will not blink at the exhaust side.

PLA
Budget option

Cheapest, but it can soften in sustained heat and sun, so we do not recommend it for this part. Fine for a shaded room used occasionally.

How it works

  1. Open the kit page. We already hold the print-ready files, so there is nothing to upload.
  2. Pick material and colour. PETG is our recommendation. The live price updates as you choose.
  3. Check out and we print it. Printed to order in our Basingstoke workshop and posted tracked, usually within a few working days.

Frequently asked questions

What does the dual-hose conversion actually do?

A single-hose portable air conditioner pulls air from inside the room to cool its condenser, then blows that air outside. That creates negative pressure indoors, so warm unconditioned air gets sucked back in through gaps around doors and windows. A dual-hose setup gives the condenser its own outdoor air supply, so it does not depressurise the room. The result is faster, more efficient cooling, especially on hot days.

Is anything missing? Where are the rest of the parts?

Nothing is missing. This is the complete printed set for the conversion: the rear intake backplate and the hose adapter, both included. The only thing you supply is a second exhaust hose, which is a standard portable-AC part. If you are unsure which hose fits, message us before ordering and we will point you to the right one.

Which material should I choose?

We recommend PETG or ASA. These parts sit at the hot exhaust side of the unit and often near a sunny window, and standard PLA can soften in sustained heat and direct sunlight. PETG is our default and only a little more than PLA. ASA is the most heat and UV resistant option if the unit sits in strong sun. We print PLA on request but do not advise it for this part.

How does ordering work?

You do not need to upload anything, we already hold the print-ready files. Open the kit page, pick your material and colour, and check out. Postage is £3.95 Royal Mail Tracked 48, free on orders over £40. We print it to order and post it from Basingstoke, usually within a few working days.

Will it fit my exact model?

The kit is designed for the Blyss A018I-12CH portable air conditioner, a common B&Q model. If you have a different portable air con and want a dual-hose conversion, get in touch. We print a range of appliance parts and can often help.
