What we fix

Windows boot & recovery

Boot loops, BSODs, "Preparing automatic repair" stuck loops, failed updates that won’t roll back. We’ll either repair in place or do a clean reinstall preserving your files — whichever costs less.

Slow PCs & startup issues

Long boot times, lag after login, unexpected pauses. Driver, startup-program, profile, disk-health and SSD-firmware angles all checked.

New PC / laptop setup

Out-of-box Windows setup done properly: updates, drivers, accounts (Microsoft, Google, email, browser bookmarks), essential software, and a basic backup configured. £60 fixed.

Wi-Fi & home networking

Router config, mesh setup walkthroughs, port forwarding (game servers, NAS, security cameras), guest networks, parental controls, basic VPN. Remote diagnosis covers most homes.

Malware & security cleanup

Multi-engine scan, manual removal of persistent items, registry/startup cleanup, security audit and basic hardening. Honest about realistic outcomes if ransomware has already encrypted files.

Profile & account problems

Corrupted user profiles, account lockouts, "your account has been locked" screens, broken Microsoft Account sync, missing OneDrive files, broken Office activation.

Drivers, peripherals, printers

Wi-Fi adapter issues, audio drivers, printer setup (network and USB), display driver crashes, USB device problems, scanner setup, external monitor problems.

Backup & data recovery

OneDrive / Google Drive / iCloud configuration, local backup setup, file recovery from soft-deleted state. For physical-failure data recovery we’ll be honest about what’s in scope and what needs a clean-room specialist.

Pricing

Free initial diagnosis on every job. Firm written quote before any chargeable work starts. No fix, no fee.

Why us

Real IT admin background

8 years as a professional IT administrator before going independent — networking, Windows estate management, user support, the boring stuff that builds expertise. Not a hobbyist with a soldering iron.

Cheaper than the high-street

Currys / PC World minimum diagnostic is around £79; we start at £30 for a remote session. Same fixes, lower cost, no commission-driven upsells.

You watch what we do

On remote sessions you stay in front of your PC and see every action. We’ll explain what we’re changing as we go, so you understand what was wrong and how it was fixed.

Honest scope

If your problem is actually hardware (failing SSD, dying battery), or out of our scope (clean-room data recovery), we’ll tell you straight and point you at the right next step instead of running up the bill.

How it works

  1. Tell us what’s broken. Quick description of the problem — error messages, when it started, what changed recently. We’ll suggest remote vs mail-in and give you a firm quote.
  2. Remote: book a slot. We send a one-time AnyDesk / TeamViewer link. Same-day slots often available. You stay at the PC and approve every action.
  3. Mail-in: post the laptop or just the SSD. We send a packing checklist. Some Windows fixes only need the storage drive, saving you postage and disassembly.
  4. Diagnosis & quote. Free. We confirm the actual issue and the exact cost. No work without your approval.
  5. Fix and verify. Repair, test, document what was changed. You get a written summary so you know what was done.
  6. 30-day cover. If the same root cause comes back, we redo it free.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of Windows problems can you fix?

Boot loops, blue screen of death, failed Windows updates that won’t roll back, profile corruption, missing or broken drivers, slow startup, Wi-Fi or network adapter problems, malware cleanup, account lockouts, and post-update breakage. Also fresh Windows reinstalls preserving your data.

Remote or mail-in — which one for me?

Remote (£30 for 30 min, £50 for an hour) is right when the PC will turn on and connect to the internet. We use AnyDesk or TeamViewer with your permission, you watch what we’re doing the whole time. Mail-in (£40-80) is right when the PC won’t boot, won’t connect, or you’d rather we just fix it without you sitting there.

Do you charge if you can’t fix it?

No fix, no fee — you only pay for work that succeeds. Initial diagnosis is always free. If we determine the issue is hardware (failing SSD, dead motherboard) we’ll tell you straight and quote separately for the hardware repair, or recommend the cheaper path of a new device.

Can you set up a new PC or laptop from scratch?

Yes. £60 for an out-of-box new PC or laptop setup: fresh Windows install (or post-out-of-box-experience cleanup), Windows updates run, all drivers installed, your accounts signed in (Microsoft, Google, browser bookmarks), essential software (Office, browser, antivirus) installed, and a basic backup configured. Ready to use when it arrives back to you, or live if remote.

Do you do home networking and Wi-Fi setup?

Yes. Remote Wi-Fi diagnosis, router configuration, mesh network setup walkthrough, port forwarding for game servers or NAS, guest network configuration, parental controls, basic VPN setup. £40-60 for most home networking sessions.

What about malware and ransomware?

Malware cleanup is £40-60 for a typical infection — full scan with multiple engines, manual removal of persistent items, registry and startup cleanup, security audit and basic hardening. Ransomware specifically: if your files are already encrypted we’ll be honest about the realistic recovery options, which is often more about backup restoration than decryption.

Do you support small businesses?

Yes — small business or solo operator (a couple of PCs, a printer, a Wi-Fi network). Block hours (£160 for 4 hours, billed in 15-min increments) work well for repeat issues. We don’t take on enterprise estates — for that you want a managed service provider with on-call cover, which we’re not.

What’s the warranty on the work?

30 days on the work. If a problem we fixed comes back within 30 days for the same root cause, we redo it free. Doesn’t cover new issues caused by your subsequent changes (we’ll happily quote a new session for those).
